A Volunteer Visitation Program to Federal and Military Prisoners Throughout the United States
The Power of Visiting:
Helping the Incarcerated Prepare for Reentry
Please join Prisoner Visitation and Support (PVS) for a special event to talk about the impact of visiting on people incarcerated, both during their imprisonment and as they return home. PVS is an independent, non-sectarian organization that recruits, trains and coordinators volunteer visitors to people incarcerated in federal and military prisons across the country.
This event will be a conversation between PVS Board of Directors Member Luis “Suave” Gonzalez and activist and author Susan Burton, with time set aside for questions from the virtual audience.
Susan Burton is an inspirational, transformational leader who founded A New Way of Life Reentry Project (ANWOL) in Los Angeles in 1998. ANWOL’s approach to reentry is internationally recognized as an innovative model that creates welcoming, healing spaces for women to rejoin their communities after incarceration while developing as leaders to work toward liberation.

A formerly incarcerated Black woman, Ms. Burton is a leader in the movement to reform the criminal legal system, a founding steering committee member of the Formerly Incarcerated Convicted People and Families Movement (FICPFM), and an outspoken voice to end mass incarceration.
Released in 2017, her memoir, Becoming Ms. Burton, received a 2018 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work in the category of Biography/Autobiography. Becoming Ms. Burton is also the recipient of the inaugural Goddard Riverside Stephan Russo Book Prize for Social Justice.
Luis “Suave” Gonzalez graduated from Villanova University with a degree in Education and Marketing. He is the subject of the IDA and Pulitzer Prize award-winning podcast “Suave.” He is also the creator of the “Death by Incarceration” podcast, a podcast that addresses the criminal justice system from the inside out. Suave is also a recognized visual artist, and currently an Administrative Reentry Coach at Community College of Philadelphia, where he assists returning citizens getting into college.
